A man who reportedly met Mark Duggan outside a Leyton school just before he was shot dead by police has been found guilty of supplying him with a gun.

Kevin Hutchinson Foster, 30, met with Mr Duggan in Vicarage Road 12 minutes before he was driven by cab to Tottenham, where officers killed him in August 2011.

The death sparked riots and looting which quickly spread across London and England before police reinforcements quelled the disorder.

Foster, of Neville Road in Hackney, was today found guilty by jurors at the Old Bailey of giving a weapon to Mr Duggan.

He will be sentenced later.

The driver of the cab, who was not identified in court, said he picked up Mr Duggan in Hoxton and then drove him to Leyton.

He was asked to stop outside a school, thought to be St Joseph's Catholic Primary, where the driver said he witnessed Foster walk round the corner and hand over a box to Mr Duggan.

The driver then took Mr Duggan to Tottenham where the cab was stopped by in Ferry Lane by police who then shot him dead.

Foster first went on trial last year but the case collapsed in October when jurors failed to agree on a verdict.

He had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and actual bodily harm after he attacked a man several days beforehand at the Lagoon Hair Salon in Kingsland Road, Hackney.

Foster threatened a 30-year-old man at the salon with the gun and then hit him on the head before running off.

The same weapon was later found at the scene of the shooting in Ferry Lane, linking Mr Duggan and Foster.

Police said they welcomed the outcome of the retrial.

Chief Superintendent Dean Haydon, of the Met's Trident Gang Crime Command, said: "Kevin Hutchison Foster has today been found guilty of supplying a firearm to Mark Duggan.

"This is in addition to the two other offences he has already pleaded guilty to, namely assault and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear.

"There is an ongoing IPCC investigation into the death of Mark Duggan and the circumstances of his death will be a matter for the Coroner at a later date."

He added: "The Kevin Hutchison Foster trial has primarily been about the supply of an illegal firearm and I welcome the verdict of the jury in this case today."

An inquest into Mark Duggan's death is scheduled for September 2013.
