A man who has collected boxes of memorabilia from his old school is asking for help solving a mystery over donated items.

Graham Frankel, 63, who was a pupil at Buckhurst Hill County High School in Roding Lane, now the Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, is putting together an exhibition to mark its 75th anniversary in September.

He was given a group of shields representing universities and other institutions that old boys had gone on to after leaving the school and wants to identify the final three.

He said: “There were about 70 shields and they were displayed in our assembly hall.

“There was one from Tokyo, one from Paris and some from ships, if people went into careers in the Navy.

“But three of the shields defeated our detective work.

“One has the Latin inscription ‘e tenebris oritur lux’ - out of darkness comes light.”

Anyone who knows where the crests are from can email Mr Frankell on grahamf49@gmail.com.

• The exhibition is due to take place at Theydon Bois Village Hall on September 13.
