FORMER Dorchester Town defender Gary Bowles stands in Bridport’s way tomorrow as the Bees look to find their scoring touch at St Mary’s Field when they take on Gillingham Town (3pm).

The ex-AFC Bournemouth man played and scored for Perry Street League side South Petherton on Saturday but is set to line-up against Bridport after moving to the Hardings Lane outfit earlier this week.

However, Bridport supremo Trevor Senior, while recognising Bowles’s ability, is not going to let his likely presence affect the way the hosts go about their business.

“He is a good footballer and is obviously going to help Gillingham but he’s not going to make any difference to how we go about things,” said Senior.

“I’m more concerned about what we do.

“We’ve just got to take some of our chances although he will be there to stop that happening.

“Gillingham have got some good forwards and Lee Gale and Matt Chant have scored quite a lot of goals for them.

“Attack-wise they are very capable but we feel we can get at them defensively, which is where Gary Bowles is trying to help them. Ryan Dovell has got 11 league goals for us this season and is one of the top scorers but we can’t rely on him. We want people getting in position to score and hopefully someone can weigh in with a few goals as well as Ryan.”

Sam Filkins, who missed Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Odd Down, returns in goal though his midweek replacement, Sean Lillington, will return for the Bees when they go to Ilfracombe Town in four days’ time.

Russell Legg is back in contention after serving a two-game ban, Matt Condliffe is unavailable and Shane Evans, who came off in midweek with a hamstring strain, is doubtful.

Gillingham are 12th in the Toolstation Western Premier Division but have only played 16 games so far while Bridport are third from bottom.
