A 70-year-old pensioner has been arrested after a woman was sexually assaulted in a park.

The 41-year-old was walking her dog in Chase Lane Park in Chingford yesterday at around 4pm when she saw a man gesturing at her.

He approached her and then indecently assaulted her.

As the attacker walked off the woman called her boyfriend, who then rushed to the park to confront the man.

Another woman, aged 50, who was walking past at the time recognised the man and claimed he had also sexually assaulted her in December.

She swung the park gate closed in an attempt to stop him but the man escaped through a hole in a fence.

But the victim and her boyfriend chased after and caught him, holding the man until police arrived.

A Met spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating whether he may be responsible for any other offences in the area.

"A 70-year-old man remain in police custody while further enquiries continue.
