Unlucky sandwich shop owner Val Martinelli has had a bad week.

Ms Martinelli, who runs Lunch 4 U in St Barnabas Road, Woodford Green, arrived at work yesterday morning to find her door hanging off its hinges.

She said: “It was half open and you could see someone had been hacking at it trying to break it.

“They must have given up, because nobody got into the shop, but it’s not great is it?

“The police did turn up, but they didn’t say much.”

This is Ms Martinelli’s second brush with crime in four months.

In November a thief made off with a charity box full of cash for vulnerable children from the counter while staff were in the kitchen.

And the latest incident capped a miserable few days for the 59-year-old.

She said: “On Saturday I was packing up a plastic crate when it sprang open and hit me in the face.

“I fell over on top of it with the shock and gave myself a massive black eye.

“That’s the way it goes sometimes. It’s been one of those weeks you just want to forget about.”
