A 15 year-old music lover has set himself up for a gruelling 40 hour drumming marathon, as he attempts to raise more than one thousand pounds for charity.

Chingford Foundation School pupil, Jason Steggall, decided to take on the challenge which incorporated both his hobby, and his desire to help a good cause.

The young musician, who will perform constantly for nearly two days, said that he is excited about taking on the challenge.

He said: “It is going to be difficult but I am looking forward to it. “I’ve been doing a lot of endurance training and getting myself ready for it. I want to be one hundred percent prepared.

“My first inspiration was my older brother, Daniel, he used to play and I was in awe of what he could do.”

Jason will begin his drum set at 6am on March 13 and finish at 10pm on March 14, during that time Loughton Music Academy, where he will be playing, will be open for supporters to go along and enjoy the performance.

After hearing about his dedication, drum specialist company, Mapex UK, have been advising Jason on techniques for the endurance test, along with teacher Hayley Cramer.

According to the rules of official drumming marathons Jason must hit the drum at least once every five seconds, for the duration of the challenge.

All of the money raised will go to Jason’s chosen charity Comic Relief, as he says that he wants his donation to help as many less fortunate people as possible.

He said: “I have chosen Comic Relief because I believe that the money will go to a wide range of people.

“I always said that I would help charity from a young age, and drumming is something that I enjoy, so I thought, why not.”

Loughton Music Academy owner Cliff Cooper said: “Jason is one of those rare beacons of light who go out of their way to make a difference.

“Our drum department are only too pleased to support him on his latest adventure.”
