A couple have been arrested after a sawn-off pump action shotgun was found during a raid on a house in Walthamstow last night.
Officers from the Trident Gang Crime Command North East Proactive Team recovered the weapon and 12 shotgun cartridges stashed in the roof of the property in Carnanton Road.
A large quantity of cash was also found hidden in a sofa, while around 50 cannabis plants were growing in the garage.
A 32-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were arrested and remain in police custody this lunchtime.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Steve Meechan said: "This was a great example of the proactive work Trident carries out to tackle gun crime.
"Trident officers continually target the suppliers of lethal firearms, protecting the public by removing guns from the hands of organised criminals and gangs.
"In 2012, the MPS seized 382 firearms and a large amount of ammunition from the streets of London.
"The number of shootings taking place in London has also significantly reduced, with 19 per cent fewer incidents than last year."
The Guardian is awaiting further information from police.
