A 35-year-old man braved freezing temperatures to raise £4,000 for a children's hospice.

Jamie Kukiewicz, from South Woodford, took part in the Tough Guy Challenge on Saturday, to raise the money for Haven House Children’s Hospice.

The challenge involved underwater swims in freezing waters, fire runs and jump ropes into mud over a 15km course on a farm in Wolverhampton.

Mr Kukiewicz completed the challenge in three hours and 40 minutes.

He said: "One of the hardest things was the extreme cold, but knowing that I was raising funds for such an amazing local cause really spurred me on and I’m delighted that I was a able to raise the £4k."

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of the hospice in High Road, Woodford Green, added: "We are so grateful to Jamie and all our local supporters who take part in these amazing challenges for the hospice.

"In this our 10th birthday year, we are looking to raise more funds than ever and it is exactly this kind of local support which will help us to reach out to even more life-limited local children."
