School uniforms were in the wash a day early, this half term, as hundreds of children got to wear their pyjamas to school, for charity.

Pupils at Redbridge Primary School paid £1 each to take part in a onesie day, donning their funkiest all in one’s, to raise money for Water Aid.

Organiser Gurjit Chana said that the children enjoyed being free of their uniforms for the day.

She said: “It went really well and all of the children were really enthusiastic. “We have raised nearly two thousand pounds at the moment; all of the children are excited to reach the final target.”

Staff and pupils at the school have worked over three consecutive terms now, to try to hit their target of £3000, which is needed to build a water pump in Malawi.

Fundraisers such as fruit sales and lemonade stands are just some of the ways in which the school have worked at gathering the necessary funds.

The school has been working with The Watercrystal, a London based company to teach the children about the importance of water.
