An aerodrome has been given an award for improving part of its safety record.
Stapleford Flight Centre in Ongar Road, Stapleford Tawney, near Theydon Bois, which provides pilot training, is the first to receive the National Air Traffic Service’s (NATS) award for reducing infringement of other bases’ airspace.
Breaching controlled airspace is a safety concern and the centre has been taking a number of measures, including using new software and warning devices and speaking about any infringements that occur.
The flight centre received the award for halving its breaches in 2012.
Colin Dobney, head of training at the centre, said: “Stapleford is very proud to be the first to receive the new NATS Infringement Prevention Award.
“Air safety is the priority in all Stapleford’s training programmes for tomorrow’s airline pilots and for our private club members.”
