A pub is inviting residents to take part in an attempt to break the world record for most people doing an Irish jig at once.

O'Neills in Leytonstone High Road is hosting the stunt on Thursday March 14 at 8pm to mark St Patrick's Day and also help raise money for Haven House Children's Hospice in Woodford Green.

The chain hopes that the combined total of participants across its 49 pubs nationwide will break the current simultaneous jig record of 10,036 people.

Those wanting to take part should come to the pub at 7pm for a brief lesson before the attempt at 8pm, where they will have to dance for five minutes.

There will be a collection for Haven House and proceeds from the sales of O'Neills branded St Patrick's Day hats will also go to the charity.

Barry Mcleavy manager at O’Neill’s Leytonstone said: “Every year we look at ways to celebrate our favourite event, St Patrick’s Day, while also trying to give something back to the local community."

St Patrick's Day is on Sunday March 17.
