More than £120 was raised for a children's charity when a cafe held a dumpling eating competition.

Jerk Hut, in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, collected the cash for The Soul Project in Wood Street with the contest on Saturday afternoon.

Around 40 people battled it out to eat the most Jamaican-style dumplings in the space of two minutes.

Patrick James and Akasha McClean were joint winners, managing to eat three dumplings each.

They won a free meal at the cafe.

Jerk Hut owner Martin Rigg said: "It went very well and I think everyone had fun.

"The dumplings are quite big so the winners did well. Of course we think they're the finest ones in Walthamstow, the best dumplings around.

"I'm glad we were able to raise the money for such a worthy cause, the work they do with local children is very good."
