People who are currently exempt from paying Council Tax will be forced to make contributions as of April 1, as more than £1 million of support is slashed.

Epping Forest District Council has warned residents that the new Local Council Tax Support system, is ‘not as generous’ as the current benefit scheme.

Help sessions will be held over the coming weeks, so that those who will be affected can go along and find out about the payments that they will now be expected to make.

The council is encouraging people to go along early and find out about various payment schemes, as reduced funding from central government means that some of the poorest families in the district will be forced to pay.

The first drop in session will be held at Debden Little Oaks Children Centre, today, from 1:30pm-3:30pm.
