A school has celebrated the opening of a new building which will allow it to double in capacity.

The new complex at Gwyn Jones Primary, in Hainault Road, Leytonstone, features four classrooms and office space.

The school is expanding from having one form of entry to two, resulting in a gradual overall increase in the number of pupils in the coming years.

Headteacher Christine Bott said she was delighted with the new building.

She told the Guardian: "The classrooms and offices are really nice and they're of real benefit to the school and the wider community.

"Not only are we increasing in size but there's more space for clubs and things like that too."

Ms Bott said the council had not told her how much the project had cost.

Work began on the building last May, with some classrooms ready in time for September.

The office space was completed just before Christmas and the official opening was just before half-term earlier this month, marked with a concert by the school's choir and orchestra.
