The hunt for the first ever Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex is coming to a close, as people have only two days left to apply.

As Nick Alston’s deputy the successful candidate will play a significant role in the planning and budgeting for police in the county.

All applications for the high profile role, based in Chelmsford, must be in by 3pm on March 8. Interviews for the position will be held on March 26 during the afternoon and evening, so applicants are asked to keep this date free.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, Nick Alston, says that he is looking for somebody who is passionate about policing.

He said: “I am really excited at the prospect of finding a strong candidate to assist me in all aspects of my role and in particular in scrutinising the police and making sure that crime reduction measures across Essex are efficient and effective.

“He or she must care about local delivery, be committed to encouraging the further professionalization of policing and be prepared to encourage greater partnership in all aspects of crime reduction.”
