Two of the district’s residents are richer than the Queen, according to the biggest annual survey of Britain’s wealthiest people.

Computer tycoon Alan Sugar, who lives off High Road in Chigwell, is reported to be £60 million better off than he was this time last year according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

Despite the increase taking his total wealth to £860 million, he has dropped six places to 98th on the list of the UK's 1,000 wealthiest people.

The peer may be better known for his appearances on the BBC’s Apprentice programme but he still runs his Amshold company from Loughton.

He shares his place on the list with pharmaceuticals giant and Tory party donor Lord Balleydmond, and Richard Desmond, who owns the Express newspaper group and Channel 5 Television.

Property tycoon Andreas Panayiotou, left King Harold School in Waltham Abbey with no GCSEs but his wealth has him placed at number 243 on this year’s list.

He has spoken out in the past about his struggles with dyslexia, and his fortune is down £35 million on this time last year, but is still able to muster an estimated £365 million He hit the headlines last year when he put his 14-bedroom mansion in Hampstead on the market for £100 million, because wife Susan wanted to settle on the couple’s estate in Epping Forest.

The Queen, herself, is £10 million richer than last year with £320 million.

Another Chigwell resident on the list is Subaskaran Allirajah, owner of Lycatel, which offers cheap international phone calls through pre-paid cards.

He is estimated to be worth £180 million – £80 million more than last year.

Further down the list is rocker Rod Stewart who lives on Epping’s Copped Hall Estate with wife Penny Lancaster, and has seen his wealth rise by £10 to £130 million.

But their wealth pales in comparison with that of Leytonstone-born David Beckham who, with wife Victoria, now has an estimated fortune of £200 million.
