Team GB star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith caused hysteria on a visit to a Woodford Green school.

The Olympic medal winning gymnast popped into Woodford County High School for Girls in High Road last week after being invited by 14-year-old pupil Sabah Mohammed.

Louis’ entrance into the school hall was greeted by screams of delight and an explosion of excited Twitter updates.

And the shrieks got even louder when the heartthrob sang Justin Bieber’s hit ‘Boyfriend’ at the request of the girls.

Assistant headteacher, Mellisa Greenfield, said: “Nobody fainted, but it’s fair to say there was quite a bit of screaming.

“He gave the girls an inspirational talk about the importance of working hard and following their dreams.

“He did some backflips which were amazing and got everyone very excited and then someone asked him if he had any other talents.

“That’s when he started singing Justin Bieber. He has a very nice voice.”

Louis would never have come to the school but for the hard work of Sabah who contacted him after being elected as Redbridge’s deputy member of the national Youth Parliament earlier this year.

One of her pledges was to get more inspirational people to visit local schools.

She said: “I wrote to Louis explaining my pledge and telling him what a big fan of his I am.

“The teachers pulled me out of my chemistry class one day to tell me he had been in contact after hearing from me and would be visiting. I couldn’t believe it.”

Sabah hosted a question and answer session with Louis and says she intends to bring more famous faces to the school.

She explained: “My friends said they were really amazed and proud of me for getting Louis Smith, but now they want me to bring Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Colin Morgan (Merlin) to the school. I’m trying to get them.”

Miss Greenfield added: “I’m amazed by and very proud of Sabah. She’s only 14, yet she took it upon herself to arrange for a very famous person to visit the school.

“The girls lined the route as Louis left. They were all very inspired by what he had to say to them.”
