A head teacher praised by Ofsted for steering her school to a good inspection rating wants it to achieve outstanding next time.

Chingford C of E Infants School in King’s Road, Chingford, was awarded the improved result on its recent inspection after being deemed just satisfactory in 2011.

And inspectors hailed the influence of new head Lindsey Lampard, who only joined the school in January but has already bettered children's achievements.

Their report said: “The headteacher provides strong leadership and, together with both her senior team and middle leadership team, is having an effective impact on improvement.

“She provides excellent direction for the school to improve. Parents and carers say that ‘she is a visible presence’.”

But Ms Lampard said it was her staff and pupils who deserved the recognition.

She said: “We’re really pleased. I’m incredibly proud, it’s a very hard working team. It won’t take much to move this school to outstanding, it’s just about consistency.”

Inspectors highlighted the performance of teaching assistants for disabled pupils and those with learning difficulties.

It also praised teachers for appearing enthusiastic and motivating pupils with well-paced and lively lessons.

However, inspectors said children’s attainment in maths still lags behind their learning of reading and writing due to teachers not giving enough feedback on how to improve.

The report said: “In a very few lessons, there are occasions when teaching is not always pitched at the right level of difficulty so that pupils can lose their concentration and progress in their learning slows.”

But Ms Lampard feels the school, twinned with the neighbouring C of E Junior School, of which she is also head, just needs small improvements to make it even better.

She believes these improvements will come as the two schools try to unite as one all-through school, a proposal due to go out to consultation shortly.

She added: “It’s an exciting time for the school. It’s a lovely place where pupils are really well behaved and friendly. A school’s only as good as its teachers. Ours are fantastic and next time we’ll become outstanding.”
