Teenage mums graduated from an NHS programme aimed at helping them back into education or employment.

The 20 young mothers from Waltham Forest have completed the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) scheme, run by the North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT).

The project involves a nurse making regular home visits to the teenagers and their families to offer practical guidance on parenting skills and advice on better financial planning.

Kristy Leach, family nurse partnership supervisor for NELFT, attended the graduation event at the Barclay Children’s Centre in Canterbury Road, Leyton, last week.

She said:  “We have seen so many positive stories over the first four years of the FNP, and it’s great to see so many young mums and their families graduating through the programme.”

Gina Brown, one of the mums on the FNP programme, said: “I really enjoyed the visits with my family nurse. It was good to be able to talk to her and she helped me get back to education.

Everything we discussed was good to know and has helped me.”
