A fire gutted the floor above a convenience shop yesterday, as neighbours had their water cut off while firefighters battled to put out the blaze.

The flames destroyed the floor and roof above Londis in Charteris Road, Woodford Green, after catching fire at about 3.55pm.

Around 35 firefighters and five fire engines then spent until 6.30pm extinguishing the fire and surrounding roads were shut off until about 8.30pm.

No-one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
