Multiple births are being celebrated this week during Twins, Triplets and More Awareness Week and World Twin Day on Wednesday.

A survey published today by the Twins and Multiple Births Association (Tamba) found that 95 per cent of parents described their multiples as best friends.

Parents of multiples most frequently mentioned being able to watch the unique bond grow between them as an advantage over single birth children.

Adult multiples surveyed at age 46 said they were almost twice as likely to rely on a sibling for emotional support, at 19 per cent, compared with adult singletons at 10 per cent.

Forest Twins and Triplets Club, the country’s first club for multiple births, is joining the celebrations with its theme ‘celebrating multiples.’

Club member Sanna Anderson said: “The club has been a lifesaver at times when you’re struggling a bit and you’re in a roomful of people who are in the same boat.”

She added that the club, run by mums, is a place for mutual support for those who are in the unique situation of having multiple children of the same age, as opposed to single-child toddler groups.

The voluntary group, which covers Waltham Forest, Redbridge and Epping Forest districts, meets every Monday at Wanstead Youth Club.

The club is also looking for a volunteer to help at the club during the playgroup on a weekly basis.
