The first Asian-led theatre company in Britain is the subject a club’s monthly meeting next week.
On July 13 the News From Nowhere Club, which provides monthly talks on a wide range of subjects, will be visited by Jatinder Verma from Tara Arts who will speak on the group’s aim of understanding global issues locally.
Tara Arts was founded in 1977 as a response to the racist murder of 17-year-old Gurdip Singh Chagger and in 1989 was the first Asian company to present work at the National Theatre.
Bringing stories from around the world together using a variety of eastern and western theatre practices Jatinder Verma has been a driving force behind the group from its beginning.
The talk is free and takes place at The Epicentre in West Street, Leytonstone.
There will be a buffet at 7.30pm to which guests are invited to contribute, followed by the talk at 8pm.
