A support group for women affected by breast cancer has been given a grant after 20 years’ work.

The group, which meets at St Margaret’s hospital in Epping, provides a space for breast cancer patients and survivors to talk about their experiences and is visited by guest speakers.

It was given £1,500 in the Cash for the Community awards at the Limes Farm community centre in Chigwell.

Gloria Eveleigh, who has been involved in the group since she was diagnosed with breast cancer 19 years ago, said: “It’s good to be given a grant.

“It will go towards equipment at the hospital’s breast unit and Reiki sessions, which really help the wellbeing of women being treated.

“The club is all about talking to other women – there’s nothing like talking to someone who’s going through what you’re going through.”

The club runs on the third Thursday of every month in the lecture theatre at the hospital in The Plain from 7.30pm.
