Concern has been raised that a proposed south African-themed community event at Wanstead Sports Club may disturb residents living nearby.

Redbridge Council's Licensing Sub-Committee is to meet tomorrow at Redbridge Town Hall in Ilford to discuss whether to grant permission for the funday, which is  planned to take place on Saturday August 3.

Applicant Andrew Figueiredo wants permission for the event to run from 2pm until 8pm in the grounds of the site in Blake Hall Road and then from 8pm into 11pm indoors at the centre.

He also wants to sell alcohol, as well as have stalls selling African clothing and a DJ playing music throughout the day.

But the council's Anti-Social Behaviour Team has objected on the grounds that the proposed event is likely to cause a noise nuisance to neighbours.

A submission from the team states: "We believe that if existing events utilising amplified sounds indoors can impact residents living in the surrounding residential properties, then any event being held outdoors using amplified sounds will impact residents from enjoying the comfort of their homes, especially during this summer period where most residents may want to utilizie their back gardens".

No other objections have been received, according to a council report.
