Work on a new housing development is now complete, bringing a mix of shared-ownership and social housing homes to Walthamstow.

Watermark, the development in Blackhorse Lane, was unveiled last week by housing management body East Thames.

Its 82 homes, 23 of which are social housing, are the third stage of East Thames’s Papermill Place scheme, a wider redevelopment of the Blackhorse Lane area providing a further 241 of affordable homes back in 2010.

Watermark comprises 80 per cent affordable homes, with 59 being shared ownership alongside the 23 social housing homes.

The borough's housing waiting list stands at 24,000.

The homes are all built around Mill Gardens, a park created for the development by East Thames.

Cllr Chris Robbins, leader of Waltham Forest Council said: “As the third phase of what was already a successful housing development, contributing significantly to the local council’s regeneration and housing ambitions, Watermark is just the sort of investment in affordable housing that is helping us to improve the quality of life for Waltham Forest residents.”

East Thames chief executive, June Barnes, added: “We are excited and proud to have officially launched Watermark and to see that residents have already settled into their new homes.

“The development represents a sustained investment from East Thames into the area, delivering much needed new family homes and facilities at affordable prices.”
