An art group that has counted a well-known Tube poster designer among its members was praised during its annual exhibition.

The group, which meets in Buckhurst Hill and counts transport artist Walter Spadbery among its founding members, put on a display at the home of the Buckhurst Hill Community Association in Westbury Road, where it is based.

Organiser Ian Purser said: “The show mainly included painting and drawing, with some print making, mosaics, sculpture and calligraphy.

“We encourage beginners to show their work so the standard doesn’t seem unapproachable, but there’s generally a high standard, which people commented on.

“Quite a few pieces were sold this year.”

The association is encouraging people to sign up for courses on its 2013 and 2014 programme, which will soon be available on its website, www.b-h-c-a.org or in printed form from libraries and local businesses.
