Teachers and staff at a secondary school dressed up in 1940s attire to raise money to feed the homeless.

The staff at Walthamstow School for Girls spent yesterday teaching dressed in dungarees, big hats or colourful dresses to raise hundreds for local charity Eat or Heat.

The charity gives food to families forced to choose between feeding themselves or paying the bills and a group of 14 and 15-year-old girls organised the day after MP Stella Creasy gave a talk at the school in Church Hill.

The group of girls were inspired to dedicate seven days of their year to help the local community, and chose Eat or Heat as their charity, so far raising £280 with a cake sale.

Language support teacher Gill Scott said: “It was absolutely fantastic. The teachers had to give lessons dressed up which was funny. The girls did very well, we’re still counting money coming in.

“They all wore Eat or Heat t-shirts and we had to dress up – it looked like something out of a film set.”
