An African-themed community event at Wanstead Sports Club is to go ahead next month despite fears it will disturb residents living nearby.
Andrew Figueiredo applied for permission to run the event on Saturday August 3 from 2pm until 8pm in the grounds of the site in Blake Hall Road and then from 8pm to 11pm indoors at the centre.
But Redbridge Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Team objected on the grounds that the event was likely to cause a noise nuisance to neighbours.
The original plans included selling alcohol, having stalls selling African clothing and a DJ playing music throughout the day.
However Redbridge Council's Licensing Sub-Committee approved the plans yesterday with conditions.
The Guardian is awaiting further information from the council.
