There are fears of continued disruption on a busy road where a bridge is being repaired, amid claims workers are never seen on site.

Temporary traffic lights were installed at the damaged bridge in Roding Lane, between Buckhurst Hill and Chigwell, last year.

But there were soon reports of motorists taking 25 minutes or more to get through daily jams.

Essex County Council said maintenance work on the bridge was due to start in spring this year and finish by the autumn.

But George Bramley, of Nursery Road in Loughton, who passes the bridge several times a week on his way to the gym in Redbridge, feels more could be done to speed up the work and minimise disruption to the public.

He said: “There’s never a workman there.

“I drive past quite a lot, at all times of the day.

“It’s practically the only road to get to Chigwell and I think it’s pathetic.

“They built London Bridge quicker than this.”

He said he had written to the county council and Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing about the works.

The road provides access to the David Lloyd gym, Chigwell Day Nursery and the Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College.
