A motorist has hit out at council contractors he claims ruined the paint work on a car he had bought two days before.

Mario Allen, 27, of Palace View Road, Chingford, returned home from work to find the chips covering his Audi A5 after contractors resurfaced the street.

He said: “It’s very upsetting. I came back from work and saw what I thought was something on the car, but I looked closely and there are little chips everywhere.

“The car cost £12,000, so it’s a big thing for me. I've got proof it wasn't damaged when I bought it.

“My next door neighbour came outside and said something had happened and the rubble from the works just went everywhere.”

He said he had contacted the council about the matter, but was referred to contractors JB Riney and has not been told whether he will receive compensation, three weeks on from the incident.

He added: “I’m worried it hasn’t been sorted out three weeks on and no-one seems interested.

“It’s taken the excitement away from having a new car and I wish I’d never bought it.”

The Guardian contacted JB Riney, but it refused to comment.
