Tamara Ecclestone’s husband was robbed at knifepoint near a Wanstead petrol station this week.

Two men allegedly stole Jay Rutland’s £50,000 Rolex watch and a £20,000 gold bracelet as he relieved himself in bushes, it was reported.

During a fight in which the 32-year-old was hit in the face and knocked to the ground, one of the attackers dropped his phone.

Mr Rutland handed the phone to police who used it to identify one of the men.

The former broker married Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone’s 29-year-old daughter earlier this month in France.

Officers were called around 12.30am on Wednesday to reports of a man robbed and assaulted in Lonsdale Road, near a petrol station by the Green Man roundabout in Wanstead.

Police said he had got out of the vehicle he was driving when he was approached by two black men wearing dark coloured hooded tops who robbed and assaulted him.

He was not seriously hurt.

The suspects drove off in a black car in the direction of Cambridge Park.

A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on Thursday.

He appeared in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with one count of robbery and one count of possession of a knife.

He was remanded in custody.
