It happened in Fairfield Road shortly before 5.45pm on Saturday.
The victim, a man aged in his mid-20s, was rushed to hospital with chest and leg wounds.
Met police said yesterday he was in a critical but stable condition.
A spokesman added: "At this early stage, officers believe the shots were fired by a pillion passenger on a red motorcycle which subsequently fled the scene.
"Enquiries continue."
