A teenager arrested in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Walthamstow has been released on bail.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody on Saturday (July 27) after he handed himself in to a police station.

But the Met said late on Sunday he was then bailed until a date in mid-August pending further investigations by officers.

The girl was attacked shortly after midnight last Saturday by some garages in Hibbert Road, near the junction with Theydon Street.

Police said three men were involved and the girl was pinned down. She was raped by two of the men.

Two other 17-year-old suspects in the case appeared at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with the rape.

They cannot be identified by the media due to their age.

One has been remanded in custody while the other has been bailed with conditions.

They are both due to appear next at Snaresbrook Crown court on Wednesday 21 August.
