The Chingford pupils received a response from the Queen in one week
Correspondence from the Queen surprised and delighted children at a Chingford pre-school last week.
Children at Merryfield Pre-School and Baby Nursery, in Station Road, were thrilled to receive the response only one week after sending Her Majesty a letter congratulating her on the birth of her great-grandson.
The children, aged between three and four, were learning about the postal system and discussing the Royal Family and decided to combine the two withe their letter to Buckingham Palace.
The original letter to the Queen read: “Ma'am, we would like to congratulate you on the birth of your great-grandson George.
“I have the honour to be, Ma'am, Your Majesty’s humble and obedient servant."
The letter was signed by Class 4.
The gesture prompted a response addressed to “The Children of Class 4, Merryfield Pre-School, Chingford”.
The letter, written by a Lady-in-Waiting, was formally stamped from Buckingham Palace.
The response, typed on paper bearing the Balmoral Castle letterhead, read: “The Queen wishes me to thank you very much for your message of congratulations on the birth of her great-grandson, Prince George of Cambridge.
“This happy event has given much pleasure to the whole Royal Family and Her Majesty greatly appreciates your thoughtfulness in writing.”
Paula Brown, a management team member at Merryfield, said: “You don’t get many envelopes marked Buckingham Palace do you!”
