Leytonstone's Sunshine Day Nursery received a glowing Ofsted report
A nursery has been rated “outstanding” by Ofsted for the second time in a row.
The remarkable achievement was earned by Sunshine Day Nursery in Wallwood Road, Leytonstone, with inspectors awarding top marks in all categories following a July inspection.
Chris Sheen, who co-owns the nursery with his wife Kim, said the inspection’s results, announced last week, were a nice recognition of the staff having done a great job.
“We’re overjoyed to be judged as outstanding twice in a row, especially as some providers have dropped from ‘outstanding’ to ‘satisfactory’ under the new, stricter Ofsted inspection regime,” the 37-year-old said.
“The nicest comment the inspector made was that we had created a very special place for children.”
He said the inspector was impressed by the extra effort staff went to, such as growing fruit and vegetables in the nursery’s garden.
The nursery has 83 children on the roll and inspector Sarer Tarling noted that it supports those with learning difficulties or disabilities and those who speak English as an additional language.
The inspector wrote: “The dedicated leadership and management team demonstrate an exemplary knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
“Children are thriving and make excellent progress in their learning development, in relation to their starting points, due to the excellent teaching.
“Staff follow stringent procedures which give the highest priority to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children.
The couple also run two other local nurseries, Sunbeams Day Nursery and Footsteps Day Nursery.
