Police are appealing for information after a police chase on the M25 near Waltham Abbey
A man drove his van the wrong way down the hard shoulder of the M25 during a police chase on Saturday.
Road police had been queuing in traffic approaching Junction 26 on the clockwise carriageway at 11.30am when a Renault van sped past them on the hard shoulder.
Officers left the queue and followed the van down the hard shoulder to the roundabout at the bottom of the junction, indicating for the van driver to stop.
He failed to do and instead drove in a clockwise direction on the anti-clockwise carriageway, towards Junction 27, where he then left the M25 to join the southbound M11 towards Epping.
The man is aged around 30, with short, blond spiky hair
Police were then forced to discontinue their pursuit for the safety of themselves and other motorists.
The police helicopter was deployed and scoured the area for the white van while police on the ground carried out a search of the area.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the van is urged to contact Essex Police on 101.
The man is aged around 30 and has short, blonde spiky hair.
