Theydon Bois teenager reaches competition final after losing more than three stone
A teenager who shed more than three stone in just over a year recently made it to the final of a slimming competition.
Nineteen-year-old Danielle Hazel took part in Slimming World’s Young Slimmer of the Year competition after shedding 3st 7.5lb through healthy eating and exercise.
A total of 10,000 Slimming World Clubs across the country were given the chance to put forward one slimmer, with just 33 making the final - a number which included Miss Hazel.
She said: “I used to feel like I was different to all my friends,
“I felt like I stood out because I was bigger and I couldn’t always do the same things or wear the same clothes as them. It affected my confidence and I didn’t want to be like that for the rest of my life.
“I came to Slimming World with my mum. I was really nervous but everyone was friendly and helpful. It was much easier than I expected to start making healthy choices and I soon realised that I didn’t need to make drastic changes, just small things like swapping white bread for wholemeal.
“The encouragement I got from the other members and my consultant Lisa Grimes really kept me going, even if I had a bad week.
“Life is so much more fun when you’re living it to the full, like I am now, instead of letting it slip by, like I was.”
Miss Hazel joined the Theydon Bois Slimming World group, based at St Mary’s Church Hall, in April 2012 and has gone from 14st 3.5lb to 10st 10lb in that time.
Slimming World groups accept 11-15 year-olds for free, as long as they attend with an adult.
