Man, believed to be in his 40s, shot in Hale End Road, Walthamstow
Police officers shot a man who was reportedly carrying a gun in the street.
Armed police swooped on Hale End Road in Walthamstow shortly after 8.20pm last night after two calls from members of the public.
They challenged the suspect and then shot him in the arm near a bus stop opposite Lamorna Close.
A gun was recovered from the scene.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, is in hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
He has now been arrested on suspicion of firearms-related offences.
Police provided first aid to the shot man until paramedics arrived.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was conscious and was treated and stabilised at the scene.
The gun found at the scene will now undergo forensic examination.
Senior officers and investigators from the Metropolitan Police Service Directorate of Professional Standards were in attendance, as were investigators with the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
An independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident will be carried out by the IPCC.
Hale End Road is open to traffic.
