Redbridge Council says healthy meals guaranteed
The price of school meals have been frozen at £2 per day for the next three years, it has been announced.
The price freeze follows negotiations between Redbridge Council and food contractor ISS Facility Services.
Councillor Alan Weinberg, cabinet member for children’s services, said, “For the price of a newspaper and a couple of pints of milk, school children in Redbridge will be provided with a tasty, nutritious meal every day.
“Keeping the price low, and guaranteeing it until 2016, not only shows we understand the financial strains our residents face in these times of austerity, it also means that for a tenner a week parents know their children are getting a freshly cooked, healthy, balanced meal.”
52 schools in the borough have a Soil Association silver accreditation for 2013/14, meaning food is sourced sustainably, is high quality and has been freshly prepared and cooked each day.
