Walthamstow Academy is celebrating its best ever GCSE results today.

A total of 62 per cent of the 166 students who sat exams at the Billet Road school achieved five or more A* to C grades, including English and maths, compared to 55 per cent last year.

Five or more GCSE grades A* to C were acheived by 93 per cent of pupils - up from 87 per cent last year.

Principal Emma Skae said: “We are very pleased with these results which are our best yet.

“Students have worked incredibly hard and thoroughly deserve these results.”

The academy opened in 2006.

Last week 49 per cent of A-level and equivalent students achieved A*to B grades.
