An application has been submitted to erect a two-metre fence around a field which has been the subject of a development dispute.

The patch of land, known locally as Evergreen Field, in High Street, Wanstead, has been bought by Dalco Developments, but the company has so far been thwarted in its attempts to build homes on the land by local opposition and council policy on green spaces.

The company wants to erect a closed board fence to replace the current chain-link fence, which has been partly covered with tarpaulin by Dalco.

The planning application states that the current fence should be replaced as it is unsightly.

But the Wanstead Society, which has planning permission to use the field for community events, says the new fence will block off views across the field.

People have until September 6 to register their views on the application.
