43-year-old man shot by police in Walthamstow discharged from hospital
A 43-year-old man who was shot by police in Walthamstow on Tuesday night has been discharged from hospital today and taken into police custody.
He has been arrested on suspicion of fire arms offences.
Armed police swooped on Hale End Road in Walthamstow shortly after 8.20pm on Tuesday after two calls from members of the public reported a man carrying a gun in the street.
Police challenged the man and then shot him in the arm near a bus stop opposite Lamorna Close, off Hale End Road.
Police provided first aid to the man until paramedics arrived and he was taken to hospital for treatment.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man was conscious and was treated and stabilised at the scene.
Senior officers and investigators from the Metropolitan Police Service Directorate of Professional Standards were in attendance, as were investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
An independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident will be carried out by the IPCC.
