A new symphony inspired by living and working in Walthamstow will be performed by a local violin group at the Stow Festival.
‘Strung Out’ is a community violin group created by composer, Alison Jones, for violin players of all levels.
Earlier this year the group, who rehearse at The Quaker Meeting House in Jewel Road, received funding from the BBC and the Arts Council to create a symphony inspired by living in east London.
The players recorded sounds, images and words about their lives in Walthamstow for the piece.
Ms Jones, 50, of Byron Road, Walthamstow, said: “Making music together can have such far‐reaching effects on young and old.
“Channelling the players’ feelings about this into the Express Symphony has been a wonderful challenge all round, to get the music to accurately reflect the players’ input at a level playable by everyone.”
The finished symphony will be performed in four movements, incorporating violins, ukuleles, banjos and voices, with the Walthamstow Acoustic Massive (WAM).
More than 50 singers and players will perform the new symphony at the Stow Festival on September 7 at 1pm in the Town Square, Walthamstow, which is free to attend.
