Redbridge Rotary Club raises £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Redbridge Rotary Club has helped raise around £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support with its latest fund-raising push.
The organisation, which has been active in the borough for the last 30 years, is on the look out for new members to help with its work collection cash for a variety of charities.
Its latest fund-raising event was at the Goodmayes branch of Tesco on August 17, where volunteers encouraged shoppers to dig deep for Macmillan Cancer Suppport.
Branch president Colin Jefferies said the charity was close to members hearts and praised its work.
He added: “As cancer affects one in three people it is good to know that nobody needs to face cancer alone and that Macmillan Cancer Support will be there to help.”
The group currently has around 30 members and is currently drawing up plans to raise money nexst month for the Disaster Emergency Committee's fund for people caught up in the Syria conflict.
Volunteer and public relations officer Graham Carter, 56, said: “We do a lot of work in the borough but we'd really like some more members to help us, especially younger people.
“We chose Macmillan Cancer Support for this bit of fund-raising because they do a lot of good work within the community helping patients who are receiving treatment in their homes, and their families too.”
Other charities that the branch supports includes Haven House Children's Hospice in Woodford Green, Redbridge Night Shelter and Water Aid.
