Police continue to question woman over death of eight-year-old girl at a flat in Bedwell Court in Broomfield Road, Chadwell Heath
Police are continuing to question a woman over the death of an eight-year-old girl yesterday.
The 34-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of the child was discovered at a flat in Bedwell Court in Broomfield Road, Chadwell Heath.
Police say they were called by the London Ambulance Service just after 11.30am to reports of an injured child.
But she was pronounced dead at the scene by the time officers arrived.
It has been revealed today that the woman was then taken to hospital in Romford for minor injuries but was discharged later that day.
A police spokeswoman said: "A post mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
"[The woman] remains in custody at an east London police station.
"Detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are investigating."
Police will not say if the girl is related to the arrested woman and have declined to give further details.
