A family-run deli is out to prove that innovative independent businesses can still thrive on the high street.
The eatery opened its doors in Queens Road, Buckhurst Hill, on August 5 and its homemade snacks are proving a hit.
Owners Marc and Jane Linch have a pedigree in quality food, with Marc being a director of the award-winning The Food Company in Colchester, while Jane has a background in baking.
Mr Linch, who grew up in Chigwell, said: “I wanted to set something up a little closer to home on a smaller scale to show there is still a place for independents.”
The deli’s signature brisket sandwich uses Jane’s old Jewish recipe, which mixes secret ingredients with a variety of spices.
Vegetarians are also catered for, with the Green Owl’s sweet lentil cakes also selling well.
The deli is very much a family business, with daughters Olivia, 19, and Darcey, 17, helping out during time off from studying art and fashion respectively.
After winning Independent Retailer of the Year 2011 at the Essex Life Fine Food and Drink Award’s for The Food Company, Mr Linch is hoping the new venture will be equally appreciated.
He said: “My award is seeing people coming in and enjoying it and seeing a busy place. That’s our target.”
Although deliveries are not yet on the menu, customers can order in advance to eat in or takeaway.
You may even have your table cleared by the youngest members of the Linch family Jordana, 10, and Ruby, 8.
