Fraudster used dead mother’s disabled parking permit
A driver has been fined after using his dead mother’s disabled permit to avoid parking fees and rules.
Kemi Oropo, of Omnibus Way in Walthamstow, was ordered to pay fines and costs of £220 on August 29 after being caught during a council crackdown on the fraudulent use of blue badges.
Waris Rashid, of Cottenham Road in Walthamstow, was found to have used a fake badge and was fined £150.
He was also given a community order, including a curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am to run for four weeks as this was not Mr Rashid’s first blue badge offence and he had previously received a police caution for a similar offence.
So far the crackdown on blue badge abuse has led to eight people being arrested and 29 vehicles being clamped or removed.
Local authorities are keen to put a stop to blue badge fraud which the Audit Commission estimates costs them £4.6 million a year.
