Police appeal for witnesses to fatal crash in Wanstead to come forward
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following a crash last night which left a motorcyclist dead.
The man, believed to be aged in his late 20s, died after his bike was hit by a car on the corner of New Wanstead and Spratt Hall Road, in Wanstead, just before 9.15pm.
The 66-year-old driver of the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail and will return to police in October.
A Met spokeswoman appealed for those with information to come forward.
She said: "While officers know the identity of the deceased, they await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin have been informed.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874."
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service (LAS) said the motorcyclist suffered a cardiac arrest following the crash.
