Two men jailed for possessing a firearm
Two men have been jailed after discarding a loaded gun during a high-speed police chase.
In July last year officers in a patrol car tried to stop a Lexus known to be used by gang members.
The vehicle was driven off at speed and a chase began through Newham and Barking and Dagenham.
The car was found abandoned in Kennedy Road, Dagenham, a short time later.
Officers found a loaded gun close to the car, which a witness saw being thrown from the vehicle.
A mobile phone left in the car and DNA evidence led to the arrest of Emmanuel Sakyi, 25, of Seymour Road in Chingford, and Mohammed Wahid, 25, of Wheatfields, East Ham.
Sakyi was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail for possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Wahid was jailed for five years at Inner London Crown Court on Monday for possessing a gun.
Jessinta Hammond, 25, of Cotesmore Gardens in Dagenham, the owner of the car, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
She received a suspended 12 month sentence.
