Buckhurst Hill hospital to see Essex's first 3T MRI scanner
A £1m scanner used to detect cancer and which is the first of its type in Essex, is to arrive at a private hospital in Buckhurst Hill in November.
Holly House Hospital in High Road has had part of a wall removed to accommodate the most advanced scanner on the market - the 3T MRI Scanner, which is 7ft long and weighs 6,100kg.
Michele Fox, Imaging Services Manager at Holly House Hospital, said: “The new scanner has a larger magnet tunnel which will make the experience of an MRI far more comfortable for patients.
"Previously we used to inject a dye into patients, but with our new equipment this isn’t necessary.”
The old scanner will be removed on September 18 and the new one installed on November 18. During the changeover period patients will be scanned with a mobile MRI unit on site.
